Tasmania announced significant updates to its Skilled Migration State Nomination Program in December 2025. These changes can affect various visa pathways and nomination requirements for applicants.
Program Adjustments: December 2025
Tasmania has made minor adjustments to its Skilled Migration Program, and it will have an impact on new applicants while existing ROIs do not experience any type of changes.
Here is the detailed breakdown:
Subclass 491 – Tasmanian Skilled Employment Pathway
Orange-plus attribute:
- If you have worked in Tasmania for 12–18 months in a job directly related to your skills assessment and currently earning at least $57,000 per year (or $28.85/hour), you qualify for this attribute.
Score update: This attribute now gives 35 points instead of 30, to reward longer-term relevant employment.
Orange attribute:
- If you have two years of relevant Australian work experience and currently earn more than the National Minimum Wage but less than $57,000 per year (or $28.85/hour), then you can qualify for the orange attribute.
- Points: 6 points
- Note: This change only affects new ROIs. If you already submitted an ROI, then you can still claim both Orange and Orange-plus, and they will be recognised.
Subclass 190 & 491 – Tasmanian Skilled Graduate Pathway
Orange-plus attribute – Graduate Program Offer
- Previously, you could only claim this attribute if you had started the graduate program, but this update says that you could claim this attribute even if you haven’t started the program yet and only received a program offer in the last 12 months.
But here are some conditions for this:
- The program must be full-time.
- The role must be directly related to your skills assessment.
- The offer must be from a Tasmanian business with at least 20 employees.
- The business must have been operating in Tasmania for more than five years.
Subclass 190 – Tasmanian Established Resident Pathway
The Minimum Requirements for this pathway have been updated in wording. Here it is:
- You must have operated a business in Tasmania for at least two years.
- The business must generate a minimum personal income of $76,515 (Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold).
- The business must also have achieved a net profit after receiving that income.
The government has also announced holiday office closure along with these changes.
Christmas and New Year Office Closure
Migration Tasmania will be closed from 12:00 noon, Wednesday, 24 December 2025, and will be reopened on Friday, 2 January 2026.
During this period:
- Registrations of interest (ROIs) and applications for state nomination can still be submitted.
- Processing of applications and enquiries will be paused.
- No invitations to apply for nomination will be issued.
