Australia Sets Final 20,350 State & Territory Allocations for 2025–26

The wait for skilled migrants is finally over, with the disappointing numbers coming out for the State & Territory Allocations for 2025–26. On 4th November 2025, the Australian Government confirmed that the 2025–26 state and territory nomination allocations have been capped at just 20,350 places, which indicates limited opportunities for 190 and 491 visa hopefuls once again.

Here is the detailed breakdown for the 2025–26 full allocation:

State / TerritorySubclass 190Subclass 491
ACT800800
NSW2,1001,500
NT850800
QLD1,850750
SA1,350900
TAS1,200650
VIC2,700700
WA2,0001,400
Subtotal12,8507,500
Total20,350

The 2025–26 allocations show a tightly controlled migration year with Victoria (2,700) and NSW (2,100) receiving more quotas compared to other states for subclass 190, while NSW (1,500) & Western Australia (1,400) top the subclass 491 distribution among other Australian states.

These allocation numbers are mainly determined by evaluating:

• Workforce and demographic needs of each state and territory
• The number of on-hand visa applications already awaiting decisions
• The national Migration Program planning levels for the year

What This Means for Skilled Migrants in 2025–26

The newly released allocations make one thing clear: 2025–26 will be another highly competitive year for skilled migration. Here, it is important to note that there are very few allocations available for both the 190 and 491 subclasses, and competition will still remain very high.
