Northern Territory GSM Nomination Portal Closed for 2025–26

If you were preparing, waiting, or “almost ready” to lodge your Northern Territory General Skilled Migration (GSM) nomination, here’s the official announcement from the NT Government.

The government has confirmed that it has now received enough GSM nomination applications to fill its entire allocation for the 2025–26 program year. As a result, the NT nomination portal is closed to new applications, affecting the plans of many applicants.

Current Status of NT GSM Nominations

The nomination portal for the Northern Territory is no longer accepting new GSM applications. This means that only applications submitted before the deadline will be processed further for assessment, with final outcomes expected by 30 June 2026.

Are There Any Exceptions?

If you think about any exceptions, then yes, there is some exception, but they are limited, time-sensitive, and not guaranteed.

The NT Government has stated that new applications will only be accepted for candidates who:

  • Meet NT Graduate or NT Resident eligibility criteria, and
  • Have one of the following visa deadlines falling before 31 December 2026:

  1. Applicants who have visas expiring before 31 December 2026 and are not eligible for a Temporary Graduate visa;
  2. Applicants who will turn 45 years of age before 31 December 2026, making them ineligible for GSM;
  3. Applicants whose birthday falls before December 31, 2026, will cause their subclass 491 points to drop below the required 65.

Even for the above cases, the government has made one thing clear: nomination before a visa expires is not guaranteed. This highlights the importance of proactive visa planning. So, if you’re unsure about your eligibility or next steps, professional guidance from a Registered Migration Agent can help.
