Working as a chef in the vibrant, bustling restaurants of Australia is the dream of many aspiring cooks around the world. If you’re one of those chefs eager to bring your culinary skills to Australia but feeling unsure about the steps to get there, this success story could bring the clarity you need.
So, let’s walk through the story of one of our clients who got the Skills in Demand 482 visa as a chef with us and turned his dream of working in Australia into reality.
A Chef’s Dream Starts Here
Our client, a talented chef from India, has always wanted to work in Australia’s renowned restaurant industry. Along with having 4 years of experience as a chef in India, he had all the necessary documents like Certificate III and IV in Commercial Cookery, as well as a Diploma in Hospitality Management, that is needed to start his cooking career in Australia.
Additionally, he also had an employer in Cairnlea, VIC, who is ready to sponsor him. But there was one important step standing between him and his dream, which was successfully securing a 482 visa.
The Hurdle He Faced
Like many aspiring workers, his visa application did not stay straightforward. His employer had previously applied for the nomination under the 482 visas, but unfortunately, the application had been refused. Rather than giving up, they came to Growmore Immigration for the right guidance and support that helps them in securing the 482 visa.
How We Helped in Getting a 482 Visa
We stepped in to make a successful visa application. Our team guided the client and his employer through each stage of the 482-visa application and handled each step with care and precision.
Step 1: Initial Consultation and Assessment
First, our registered migration agent had carefully assessed the client’s situation and reviewed the reasons for the previous visa refusal. Based on that, we had designed a plan for the 482 visa application to ensure a positive outcome.
Step 2: Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS) Application
As our client had an employer, but he was not approved to sponsor overseas workers. We started the process by helping them secure Standard Business Sponsorship (SBS).
We worked closely with them and gathered all the required documents, like Australian Business Number (ABN), business registration, financial statements, and proof of active operations to submit the application.
After submitting it, in a short period of time, the SBS was granted, and the employer was officially authorised to sponsor skilled workers for the 482 visa.
Step 3: Nomination Preparation and Submission
Now SBS in hand, we moved on to the employer nomination part, in which we needed to demonstrate that the employer had a genuine need for a skilled chef, and this role could not be filled by a local Australian worker. We:
- Conducted Labour market testing (LMT) to prove no local candidates were available.
- Provided Financial Capacity evidence to show the employer could support the role.
- Confirmed Operational Capacity to ensure the business met sponsorship obligations.
Once all the documents were ready, we submitted the nomination to the Department of Home Affairs and got its approval. This approval officially confirmed the employer’s need for the chef and authorized the nomination.
Step 4: Visa Application Lodgement and Documentation
After the successful nomination, our client has reached one step closer to their approval of a 482 visa. Now, we started preparing for the next final step, which was lodging the visa application. Here, we assisted the client in gathering all required documents, including;
- Certified copies of qualifications and work references
- Police clearances and health check reports
- Personal identification and passport details
- Detailed evidence of work experience relevant to the chef occupation
Once all required documents were gathered, we lodged his visa on November 22, 2024.
Step 5: Approval of Subclass 482 Visa
Finally, after months of careful planning, paperwork, and persistence, the moment we had all been waiting for arrived. On July 22, 2025, we received the official email from the Department of Home Affairs notifying us that the Subclass 482 visa had been approved.
This was not just good news for our client but also a proud moment for our entire team at Growmore Immigration in helping skilled professionals to turn immigration challenges into success stories.
