Moving abroad to work and eventually settling down there could seem like an overwhelming situation that comes with many questions. One of our clients also felt the same when she called us for the first time. With a hopeful voice and a lot of confusion in mind, she asked our counsellor, “Sir, I want to go to Australia for work in the aged care sector, but I don’t know where to start or which visa is right for me. So, can you guide me?”
That was the moment when her dream of working in Australia’s aged care sector began, and currently, she is proudly working as an aged care worker in one of the towns in Victoria.
So, if you are also planning the same but don’t know about the process, then keep reading this blog. It will surely prove helpful for you.
Step 1: Understanding Her Goal and Eligibility via Initial Consultation
After the first inquiry call, she had taken a consultation from one of our RMA agents in which our RMA had analysed her complete profile and found that she holds an AQF Certificate III and a bachelor’s degree in education, along with five years of relevant experience in the aged care sector.
She also mentioned that she already had an employer in Victoria who was ready to sponsor her in aged care. Based on all these criteria, our team identified the most suitable pathway for her, which was the Skills in Demand (subclass 482) visa.
Step 2: Standard Business Sponsorship
As subclass 482 is an employer-sponsored visa, the first thing we had to do before lodging her visa application was to get her aged care employer in Victoria, SBS (Standard Business Sponsorship) approved. Here, we helped her employer in preparing the necessary documents, demonstrating the business’s genuine need for a skilled aged care worker, and lodging the application with the Department of Home Affairs.
After getting approval from the government in SBS, the employer became eligible to formally nominate her for the aged care position under the 482 visa program.
Step 3: Submitting Nomination Application
Once the employer received SBS approval, the next step was to lodge the nomination application for the aged care position.
In this step, the employer proves that:
- The job is genuine and ongoing,
 - The salary meets Australian market standards, and
 - The employer already made genuine attempts to recruit locally but couldn’t find suitable workers.

For that, we assisted the employer in preparing all required documents, including the employment contract, proof of genuine position, and labour market testing evidence to demonstrate that no suitable local candidates were available.
We also ensured that the nominated role aligned with her qualifications and aged care experience while also meeting all ANZSCO and visa requirements, which is important for visa approval.
Step 4: Submitting a Visa Application
After the nomination was submitted, we moved forward with lodging her subclass 482 (Skills in Demand) visa application.
The main documents we needed to submit her file were:
- Proof of her Certificate III qualification in Individual Support (Aged Care)
 - Experience letters from previous aged care employers
 - English proficiency results
 - Medical and police clearances
 - The employer’s nomination reference number

We double-checked every document and made sure that all were verified and aligned with the Australian immigration standards. We submitted it on 4th January 2025 to the Department of Home Affairs.
Step 5: The Moment of Visa Approval
The time period of waiting officially began, which tests every applicant’s patience. She called us almost every week asking, “Any update yet, sir?”. We kept reassuring and motivating her that the positive outcome is on the way and would just take a little more time.
And then, on 24th March 2025, the long wait ended. Her 482 Skills in Demand (Aged Care) visa was approved. This approval was a perfect example of careful preparation, timely communication, and a well-planned approach throughout the visa process.
What’s Next for Her?
Her journey doesn’t end after getting a 482 visa, but it opens the door to Permanent Residency for her after two years of full-time employment with the sponsoring aged-care provider.
She will become eligible to apply for Permanent Residency through either the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190).
